AppleSTEM

“a small but vital part of effective learning”

AppleSTEM is an organization that specializes in developing science and mathematics learning modules that help learners improve their problem-solving skills. Our product, mathAscend, is a web-based system designed to assess students’ mathematical development and to provide useful feedback to both students and teachers in order to make learning more effective.

Vision

AppleSTEM envisions a world where every student, regardless of physical ability or socioeconomic status, has the opportunity to receive personalized guidance in the pursuit of learning.

Mission

AppleSTEM strives to provide free to students and teachers access to online science and mathematics problem-solving modules that will enhance the student’s learning experience.

Naushina Rahman – Founding President

Naushina Rahman is a National Board Certified Teacher with over twenty years of public school teaching experience. Her varied teaching experiences range from teaching mathematics to academically gifted students in a selective enrollment school to students entering high school with little more than basic arithmetic. Understanding the challenge of differentiation to meet the needs of all of her students, she has embraced innovation in the classroom and acknowledges that no silver bullet exists which will work for all her students. In her interactions with students over these two decades, Ms. Rahman was inspired to create a web-based service that uses teacher/student side-by-side problem solving. This side-by-side technique scaffolds the use of teacher examples relied on by successful math students.

Daniel S. Domin – Chief Development Officer

Possessing a PhD. in Curriculum & Instruction and a M.S. in Organic Chemistry both from Purdue University, Dr. Domin has been researching how students learn through problem solving for over 25 years. Dr. Domin has over 15 years classroom teaching experience and has directed assessment of student learning at the university level for over five years. At AppleSTEM, Dr. Domin is responsible for developing the problem-solving modules and for incorporating problem-solving researching findings into mathAscend.
